Ruptured

"only a minute"

submission: Ruptured
date: October 7, 2009

and what a minute it is. Great animation. You use the audio really well, especially the crashes at the very beginning, and your style just seems to fit for it. I can't tell you why; it just works.

Motion is smooth and crisp. Style is great and original. The odd angles and shapes are fresh and unique, which adds a lot to it.

Definitely keep the form, but you can definitely branch out a bit, too. You've got a great taste in tunes and talent to animate; experiment with it a little.

...you motherfucking whale.

Another Small Favor

"impressive as always."

date: September 3, 2009

Considerably more expansive than the first iteration, Another Small Favor is text book, high quality, point and click awesome, something you, Zeebarf, have damn near perfected. The depth of it is considerable and impressive, and i'd love to see more of it in the future.

I really enjoyed the small touches you added to this one as well. The scanner was interesting and fun to use, the more varied locations was a definite plus, and the double click running? Such a huge benefit. It really helped getting around the forest.

Seriously, if anything bad could be said about this, it's that Another Small Favor has taken that much time from working on the next Reemus chapter.

THE.LIFT.

"interesting"

submission: THE.LIFT.

Visually, you have a much more original style than i expected. I actually really liked the ink sketch look, and you used it rather well. It was simple enough to not get cluttered, but detailed enough to give your work some depth. However, you do need work on it. I found some portions of it too dense, such as the rooftop (especially the wall) and the pictures at the end. There was just a little too much ink, and the image became grainy and busy rather than detailed or expressive.

The animating was indeed a little jagged, but it was mostly the small movements the characters made, again, most notably on the roof (the character in white especially). Walking, though, was good and smooth for the most part.

The music was simply and a little repetitive, but it faded nicely into the background and didn't really come up much. I'd say it worked fairly well all together.

I do very much like the message, too. It's a little frightening to think how the simple push of a button can change someone's world so completely.

All in all, you have a solid animation. A little rough along the edges, but it's your second work, and quite frankly, i'm impressed with it. The fluidity and "touch", i suppose you could call it, will just come with practice and experience, which i'm sure you'll rack up plenty of as you (i hope) continue to experiment and produce. Whatever your score here, A+ for the effort, sir. Keep it up.

Author's Response:

This was such a useful review! Thanks for appreciating that it is still a little rough, but is part of the style. I do personally like collage-y looking things but this is the first time I used the scanner for backgrounds etc. It's nice that you got the gist of the message too, i think some people were having trouble with it. No fear, i'll keep practising, I want to get good.
p.s. I'm a girl.

Raptor Burgers

"Huh. Not what i expected."

submission: Raptor Burgers
date: June 12, 2009

Very slick animation, and the song was great. Everything synced up very well (you'd be surprised how often it doesn't). Liked the small details, too; the lab coat pockets, the buttons and lights on the lab machines, details on the raptor, etc. They really do add a lot to the film. And naturally (and this was a beautiful touch), with all this technology, we find it necessary to kill our prey with the oldest weapon known to mankind: a big fucking rock.

The only problem for me was a little bit of the pacing. Because you were restricted by the beat of the song, some small sections seemed longer than necessary, like walking with the crate and growing the raptor. Note, though, that this is a very minimal thing; it doesn't detract by any measure from the quality of your work (which is quite great).

Now excuse me while i enjoy your other work.

Pong Battle v0.1 -preview

"For an unfinished piece..."

date: June 4, 2009

it's pretty darn good. Very simple, as you said, but it looks quite good already. A better frame rate would help things out a lot (the picture lagged a bit on me a couple times). Also, it does need music, or some sound. But you already knew that.

Otherwise, it looks pretty slick. Good work with effects and style. The finished product should be solid.

Doom Triple Pack

"thank you for this"

submission: Doom Triple Pack
date: May 8, 2009

I had the shareware Doom back in high school, but i couldn't get it again on my new computer (formatting issues. blah). I've been looking for some way to enjoy it again, and you've delivered it in full. I started a new game and everything came rushing back to me: the secret doors, hidden passages, power-ups galore. Everything's there, in full DOS glory.

AND THEN getting Heretic and Hexen as well?! Holy damn, man. You're amazing.

Thank you for giving us this sweet, sweet nectar of classical gaming. You are a generous and loving god.

Very, very funny work. The style was prefect for it, and you definitely played it up right; you mixed the right attitudes with the appearance.

Da Pink Knight

"rather enjoyable"

submission: Da Pink Knight
date: May 4, 2009

Not perfect, but a solid game nonetheless. Style is great, it's good good humor, and the mechanics are simple enough to pick up and enjoy quickly. My one major complaint is that the controls stick a little; i have a hard time turning around sometimes (though that might be my keyboard). And some of the boss's combos are damn dirty.

The first time i played it, though, i thought it was in 2D, and was pissed at how hard it was. Then suddenly the boss moves into the foreground and my mind was quite well blown.

Anyway, very good game, great addition to the 09 pico day collection.

Castle Repercussion - TSR

"I'm reviewing this instead of each film seperately"

date: April 26, 2009

Repercussions has really taken your series to another level (i watched the main story before the teaser), and this really sets the tone for it. A massive step up from your first part, in terms of both directions and style. Great series, and i love where it's going. Can't wait for this whole thing to wrap up!

Just a few buds

"so apparently you have to be stoned while watching"

submission: Just a few buds
date: April 21, 2009

that's the only way for this to be enjoyable. Otherwise, it's just as shitty as the attempts these people make at interacting with anyone else while they're stoned. A serious waste of time. Really, i'm impressed you managed to operate a computer while high (and mustered the drive to do it). So, there's that to your benefit.

Next time, save us the trouble of having to deal with you, and stay on your couch.
