Tetris (Metal Version)

"haha that's sweet!"

date: March 21, 2009

Pretty kick-ass, man. The only way this would be more metal is if there were crazier drums and it was about 10x faster. Other than that, though, it has a great, grungy-metal sound, and i really like the digitized melody standing alone at the beginning and end. Good stuff all around.

[ d i s t i l l ] (demo)

"awesome"

date: March 21, 2009

I'm a big fan of acoustic anything, especially guitar, and you do a fantastic job in this piece. I really like the melody; it's simple and flowing, very peaceful, very easy on the ear. The guitar sounds clean and bright, especially the bass, and is a perfect counter to your higher voice; you and the guitar balance each other wonderfully. You have a great voice for the song as well. A little rasp and strain adds a lot of color to such sad and heartfelt writing, and it's clear you're singing with a lot of feeling (which definitely helps it not be cheesy). I know this is no longer the original demo, but i would've enjoyed hearing how this progressed from way back then. Nonetheless, fantastic work.

Watz (loop)

"good"

nothing terribly new or exciting. Nice bass line, works well, gives some mild options to build up from. It sounds vaguely like a bass line from Cake, though, especially right before the loop back.

Long Sunrise

"solid"

Solid chord progression. Sweet piano melody on the bottom/opening. Was a little surprised when the other instruments came in; i like slightly more build before the everything else begins, but that's just a personal preference. It'll be cool to see where you take this; it has a lot of options. Good work so far.

Like red-slash below me said, not something done before. A capella techno/trance is definitely creative and fresh.

Execution was very good as well. The build on it was very well done and i was jamming out at the end. The harmony was also great - the voices worked really well together, especially the two lower voices that come in early.

However, you need work on the balance. Bring down the opening two voices, especially the beat-boxing - it's too much that early. You should definitely build that up as more voices come in later, but at the beginning, tone it down a tad. Also, play up the bass later on when all the voices are in there (i'm actually biased here, i like bass vocals, but that's my opinion). Maybe it's just the quality here, but everything seems like it's one volume, and when all 7 (?) voices are working at once, it just gets jumbled and is too busy to hear everything clearly, which is a shame because it's a great song otherwise.

Anyway, great work, and i'm happy to see this up here. Keep it up!

Author's Response:

Heh, you got me pegged. It actually is all pretty much one volume. It was the first time I ever played around with audacity, and I was as excited as a 14 year old with flash for the first time. So, I kinda rushed it out without learning about mixing techniques or anything.

Maybe I should go back now that I'm marginally better and see what I can't do.

Anyway, thanks for the kind words. I always appreciate new reviews.

Reasoner- Instrumental #4

"awesome"

date: May 5, 2008

Great work on this. Love the easy build at the beginning - the solo piano is crystal clear and just sings out beautifully. The harmony was fantastic, and balance was perfect - everything played its role right, nothing was overpowering. And you have a great blend of acoustic and electronic here; not an easy thing to accomplish. It's peaceful, simple, and just very easy and fun to listen to. Great work.

Very entertaining. Reminds me of Flight of the Concords - good rhythm guitar and descent balance between vocals, guitar, and percussion (though the snare could be brought down a smidge). Other than that, great job!

last time you'll say goodbye

"great stuff"

date: January 11, 2008

I really like your work. Has a great sentimental feel, and pulled at my heart strings a bit. Lyrics were great, and the sound was fantastic, i just think you upped the bass a bit too much. You need to guitar to really sing out here, with the keys backing it up; the rest should be toned down a bit to let the main voice stand out. Other than that, it's great.

It's a soft, break your heart, shoot yourself behind the dumpster guitar you got going, and it's great. The quakey voice adds to it well, and there's a good balance in your tone. Smooth song, and great work.
