Ruptured

"only a minute"

submission: Ruptured
date: October 7, 2009

and what a minute it is. Great animation. You use the audio really well, especially the crashes at the very beginning, and your style just seems to fit for it. I can't tell you why; it just works.

Motion is smooth and crisp. Style is great and original. The odd angles and shapes are fresh and unique, which adds a lot to it.

Definitely keep the form, but you can definitely branch out a bit, too. You've got a great taste in tunes and talent to animate; experiment with it a little.

...you motherfucking whale.

Another Small Favor

"impressive as always."

date: September 3, 2009

Considerably more expansive than the first iteration, Another Small Favor is text book, high quality, point and click awesome, something you, Zeebarf, have damn near perfected. The depth of it is considerable and impressive, and i'd love to see more of it in the future.

I really enjoyed the small touches you added to this one as well. The scanner was interesting and fun to use, the more varied locations was a definite plus, and the double click running? Such a huge benefit. It really helped getting around the forest.

Seriously, if anything bad could be said about this, it's that Another Small Favor has taken that much time from working on the next Reemus chapter.

THE.LIFT.

"interesting"

submission: THE.LIFT.

Visually, you have a much more original style than i expected. I actually really liked the ink sketch look, and you used it rather well. It was simple enough to not get cluttered, but detailed enough to give your work some depth. However, you do need work on it. I found some portions of it too dense, such as the rooftop (especially the wall) and the pictures at the end. There was just a little too much ink, and the image became grainy and busy rather than detailed or expressive.

The animating was indeed a little jagged, but it was mostly the small movements the characters made, again, most notably on the roof (the character in white especially). Walking, though, was good and smooth for the most part.

The music was simply and a little repetitive, but it faded nicely into the background and didn't really come up much. I'd say it worked fairly well all together.

I do very much like the message, too. It's a little frightening to think how the simple push of a button can change someone's world so completely.

All in all, you have a solid animation. A little rough along the edges, but it's your second work, and quite frankly, i'm impressed with it. The fluidity and "touch", i suppose you could call it, will just come with practice and experience, which i'm sure you'll rack up plenty of as you (i hope) continue to experiment and produce. Whatever your score here, A+ for the effort, sir. Keep it up.

Author's Response:

This was such a useful review! Thanks for appreciating that it is still a little rough, but is part of the style. I do personally like collage-y looking things but this is the first time I used the scanner for backgrounds etc. It's nice that you got the gist of the message too, i think some people were having trouble with it. No fear, i'll keep practising, I want to get good.
p.s. I'm a girl.

Tetris (Metal Version)

"haha that's sweet!"

date: March 21, 2009

Pretty kick-ass, man. The only way this would be more metal is if there were crazier drums and it was about 10x faster. Other than that, though, it has a great, grungy-metal sound, and i really like the digitized melody standing alone at the beginning and end. Good stuff all around.

[ d i s t i l l ] (demo)

"awesome"

date: March 21, 2009

I'm a big fan of acoustic anything, especially guitar, and you do a fantastic job in this piece. I really like the melody; it's simple and flowing, very peaceful, very easy on the ear. The guitar sounds clean and bright, especially the bass, and is a perfect counter to your higher voice; you and the guitar balance each other wonderfully. You have a great voice for the song as well. A little rasp and strain adds a lot of color to such sad and heartfelt writing, and it's clear you're singing with a lot of feeling (which definitely helps it not be cheesy). I know this is no longer the original demo, but i would've enjoyed hearing how this progressed from way back then. Nonetheless, fantastic work.

Watz (loop)

"good"

submission: Watz (loop)

nothing terribly new or exciting. Nice bass line, works well, gives some mild options to build up from. It sounds vaguely like a bass line from Cake, though, especially right before the loop back.
